Copyright Ownership

Authors who publish with the Review Journal of Higher-Order Thinking and Metacognition retain the copyright to their published work.

Copyright is not transferred to the journal or the publisher. Authors remain the copyright holders and retain the right to use, reproduce, distribute, archive, translate, adapt, and incorporate their work into future scholarly publications, subject to the terms of the applicable Creative Commons license and appropriate acknowledgement of the original publication.

License Granted to the Journal

By submitting a manuscript and accepting its publication, the authors grant the journal and its publisher, LITPAM, a non-exclusive license to:

  • publish the article as its first formal scholarly publication;
  • reproduce, distribute, display, communicate, and make the article publicly available;
  • publish the article in electronic, print, XML, HTML, PDF, or other scholarly publishing formats;
  • deposit, archive, preserve, index, and disseminate the article and its metadata through repositories, indexing services, databases, libraries, and digital-preservation systems;
  • make technical, editorial, formatting, and accessibility-related modifications that do not alter the scholarly meaning of the work; and
  • identify the journal as the venue of first publication.

This license is non-exclusive. It does not prevent authors from using or distributing their work elsewhere, provided that its initial publication in this journal is properly acknowledged.

Open Access License

Articles published in this journal are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0) .

Under this license, readers and other users are permitted to:

  • Share: copy and redistribute the published material in any medium or format;
  • Adapt: remix, transform, translate, and build upon the published material; and
  • use the material for scholarly, educational, institutional, commercial, or other lawful purposes.

These permissions apply provided that users comply with the following conditions:

  • appropriate credit must be given to the author or authors;
  • the original article and its first publication in this journal must be identified;
  • a link to the CC BY-SA 4.0 license must be provided;
  • any modifications, translations, adaptations, or other changes must be clearly indicated;
  • adapted material must be distributed under the same license or a Creative Commons-compatible license; and
  • no additional legal or technological restrictions may be imposed that prevent others from exercising the rights permitted by the license.

Author Reuse and Distribution Rights

Authors may enter into separate, additional, and non-exclusive arrangements for the distribution or reuse of the published article. Permitted activities include:

  • depositing the submitted, accepted, or published version in an institutional or subject repository;
  • posting the article on a personal, institutional, departmental, or research-group website;
  • distributing copies for teaching, research, scholarly communication, or professional development;
  • presenting or distributing the work at conferences, seminars, and academic meetings;
  • incorporating the article, in whole or in part, into a thesis, dissertation, book, edited collection, or subsequent scholarly work;
  • translating or adapting the article; and
  • authorizing third parties to reuse the article in accordance with the CC BY-SA 4.0 license.

Any subsequent distribution or republication should include a complete citation and, where possible, a link or DOI directing readers to the version of record published by this journal.

Preprints and Repository Deposit

Authors are permitted to deposit or post manuscript versions in institutional repositories, subject repositories, preprint servers, or personal websites before, during, or after the journal submission process.

Authors must disclose relevant preprints, repository deposits, conference papers, and earlier manuscript versions during submission. After formal publication, the deposited version should be updated with the complete citation and DOI of the published article.

The existence of a publicly available preprint may make complete author anonymity impossible during double-blind peer review. Authors must not actively identify themselves to reviewers or attempt to influence the review process through references to the preprint.

Third-Party Material

The CC BY-SA 4.0 license applies to the article as a whole unless otherwise indicated. Tables, figures, photographs, instruments, frameworks, datasets, illustrations, or other third-party materials may be subject to different copyright or licensing conditions.

Authors are responsible for:

  • identifying material that they do not own;
  • obtaining written permission where reproduction or adaptation is not permitted by law or by the applicable license;
  • providing complete attribution to the original source;
  • identifying the copyright holder and applicable license; and
  • clearly indicating material that is excluded from the article's Creative Commons license.

Users who wish to reuse third-party material excluded from the CC BY-SA 4.0 license are responsible for obtaining permission directly from the relevant copyright holder.

Author Representations

By submitting and publishing an article, the authors confirm that:

  • they own the copyright or possess the authority necessary to submit and license the work;
  • all authors have approved the submitted and published versions;
  • the manuscript does not unlawfully infringe the copyright, privacy, confidentiality, moral rights, or other legal rights of a third party;
  • all reused or adapted material has been appropriately attributed;
  • all necessary permissions have been obtained; and
  • any copyright or licensing restrictions affecting individual parts of the article have been disclosed to the journal.
